I am currently getting to this point but previously it was more annoying with mild pins and needles and numbness. It was explained to me that the neuropathy will always happen to some degree but they will monitor it and when it starts to develop to the point of pain or problems with function (grip/cooking etc ) then it should be stopped. I have had multiple discussions with my oncologist as due to have 12 rounds of treatment but will likely have to cut oxaliplatine short at 9 rounds. Unfortunately the neuropathy will get worse as treatment progresses. It is a common side effect of the treatment along with the neuropathy. Just looking to see what others experiences have been. I want to give myself every chance to live a cancer free life, but life with “first bite syndrome “, forever, is terrifying. Changes is reoccurrence rates with discontinuing this drug, etc. I plan on speaking to the hospital pharmacist assigned to my case as well as my oncologist. I am considering discontinuing this part of treatment. I fear if I continue the oxaliplatin, I risk permanent nerve damage. Day 8 was the first I could eat without intense pain. Not nearly as bad as it was at the start, but still there. Also, cold sensitivity, and neuropathy in hands and feet. I immediately developed first bite syndrome. 2.5 cm mass removed with the appendix during first surgery. Some background- I was diagnosed stage 2b appendix cancer. I'm too young for this!
